On the weekend that our son’s senior men's hockey team was competing for a Saskatchewan provincial championship I happened across this picture of The Hubs when he played for our hometown team the Leask Flyers. The best of three series against Wapella was tied one game apiece. The third game was played in Whitewood due to poor ice conditions in Wapella. The Flyers took game three to win their first and only provincial championship. The picture includes some of the loyal fans who made the two day 1080 kilometer round trip with the team.

There hasn't been a senior men's team in Leask for years now. During the years the Flyers played, those games were the social events of the winter for people of all ages in the community. The Flyers’games provided a gathering spot and on many frigid winter evenings, the rink was packed. On a few of those occasions the roughing wasn't only on the ice, and things could get pretty heated amongst the local fans and the opposing spectators.  Small town hockey fans took their hockey very seriously and a dust-up sometimes occurred. Provincial competition is a long-standing hockey tradition in Saskatchewan that we are proud to have been a part of.
